CAROLYN MASSEY AW/07/8
“And then the boy grew up”
The Carolyn Massey debut collection for Autumn Winter 2007 reflects the labels over riding ethos and design aesthetic “creatively executed luxury menswear that is both accessible and beautifully made”.
“My inspiration is drawn from ‘dressing up’ in its many forms. The strictness of evening wear, the sartorial code of a suit.”
Carolyn Massey is a 25-year-old London based menswear designer who completed the MA at the Royal College of Art in 2005. She finds
further inspiration in the Victorians and Victoriana in all its forms, the photography of August Sandler and Helmut Newton, the Bauhaus and
the Viceroy of India Lord Lansdowne.
“A tailored approach is central to my sense of design. I also have an unusual take on and personal obsession
with detail. Collections should always be beautifully tailored and well finished -I aspire to a traditional
understanding of the way things used to be and should be done”. Carolyn Masseys vision of perfection.
The Carolyn Massey Autumn Winter 2007 collection uses luxury fabrications including cashmere, French plange leather, Duchesse satin and
silk tulle, English cotton shirting and wool suiting. A wonderfully muted colour palette consists of black, soft grey and dark blue with highlights
of red and white. Attention to detail is the designers obvious passion reflected from Bemberg lining to horn buttons.
The Carolyn Massey signature label launched during Paris Menswear in January 2007 and a debut catwalk show will be held during London
Fashion week on 15 February 2007 at 12.45pm at St Bartholomew the Great Church, West Smithfield, EC1, London.
